Amphibian Man - Path CD (AKL)
It’s hard to describe the music on this 9-track album - it’s got surf influences and a fair amount of reverb, but you can’t really call it surf. It has twangy guitars that evoke the feel of some of the best spaghetti western soundtrack music, but the music definitely isn’t spaghetti western. It’s modern and a bit-prog rock at times, but the songs are nearly all in the 3-4 minute range so they don’t outstay their welcome. It really is music that defies categorization - some of the songs lock into a groove and melody and stay with it, giving them a hypnotic and at times ethereal sound. Hearing some of their earlier stuff I wasn’t overly impressed - it had too much crunchy guitar and distortion. Impressive stuff from this Ukrainian three-piece combo!
