Although sadly I’m clear across the country and wasn’t able to see the first of the Man Or Astroman reunion shows, reports and video are beginning to flood the internet. They played Atlanta last night – here is a report courtesy of the Surf Guitar 101 website (more to follow):
MoonDawg: “Let me be the first to report that the show was excellent! Some early tunes (Invasion of the Dragonmen, Destination Venus), but mostly middle period (Man Made of CO2, Television Fission). Nothing from the post-Star-Cruch …
I just got an e-mail from Thilo of the German Astronauts saying he had just scanned over 500 photos from the last 15 years or so and have uploaded them to their mySpace page. They even have 4 pages of photos from their Bellingham show with the Boss Martians and Surf Trio from 1995, one of my top 3 surf concerts of all time! They continue to play shows in Germany, still wearing their famous space costumes (the photo here is from 2007).
Just found this exciting announcement through an e-mail from Chunklet magazine/website:

This is the original line-up of Coco, Starcrunch and Birdstuff along with new member Victor Vector. And well, on Friday March 5 you can see them at the most unique venue in the state of Georgia that has an electrified floor! Atlanta locals The NEC and All The Saints open and for …

Richard Delvy, drummer with The Bel-Airs and The Challengers, and an established producer and operator of a recording studio, passed away last week at the age of 67. Both of his 60’s surf combos did much to establish the essential sound of the genre, that still lives on today. Check out the Sundazed website for a more extensive look at his life and career, including notes from famed surf/culture historian Dominic Priore.
This year’s Surfer Joe Summer Surf Music Festival is set to happen June 24 – 27 at Livorno, Italy – four days of the best surf and instrumental rock n’ roll in the world. Double Crown is proud to be a co-sponsor of the festival (although sadly it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to fly over for it). Just take a look at this lineup!
