Summer, sun, the beach and a great attitude to life - all this is reflected in this excellent Bear Family Records CD compilation, with the cool sounds of surf and rock 'n' roll instrumentals. Californian beach life also meant the dangerous confrontation with the power of the water and the waves and pimped-up vehicles which surf fans could drive to the seaside in the USA in the 1960s. This compilation includes great hits and numerous rarities from the 1959 to 1966 period.
In addition to stars such as Dick Dale, Jan & Dean, Duane Eddy and The Ventures, there is plenty of room here for lesser-known artists and bands who produced great surf tunes. Includes detailed liner notes by surf icon John Blair with rare photos and illustrations.
