The Green Reflectors - 16 Hot Hits CD (Otitis Media) 

How many 2-piece surf bands are there? The Green Reflectors might be the only one - brothers Kyle (guitar) and Aaron (drums) do it all on this set of 16 instrumental rock n’ roll recordings. They’ve been playing for quite a while around their native Nova Scotia, as well as neighboring provinces, and have put out several great recordings over the years, but this just might be their best. Now you’d think that without bass and rhythm guitar the sound would be thin, and maybe even a bit weak, but you’d be wrong - they actually have a fuller sound on this recording than many bands with additional musicians. Part of that is the heavy reverb on the guitar, but it’s also down to the powerhouse drumming of Aaron, who plays with power, but also with skill and finesse that allows him to fill spaces around the playing of his brother. The songwriting is great as well, covering a variety of genres, including Link Wray style instrumentals, film noir soundtracks, horror-instro, and just straight up 60’s surf. The cover art is excellent as well!
