The Fathoms - Hard To Fathom CD (MuSick)
This is the first new music by this legendary east coast surf band in 8 years (if you count some of the bonus tracks on their Fathomless reissue CD) and it was well worth the wait! Eight classic original tunes with lots of great twangy, reverb-fueled guitar work. Frankie Blandino is back with some of his best playing ever captured, and he's backed by the original rhythm section as well (Johnny Sciascia on bass and Stan Kozlowski on drums). Interestingly, several of the songs seem to be influenced by The Spotnicks and The Atlantics, which is cool when fused with their earlier influences such as The Astronauts, early 60's surf and a bit of rockabilly here and there. The cover art by David Landis for Shake It Loose Graphics is classic as well. Let's just hope they don't wait so long for their next release!
