The Surf Hermits - Showdown CD (Sharawaji)
With this new full-length the band has upped their game, delivering an album with a great variety of modern surf tunes that feature outstanding playing from each of the band members, fun and memorable songs and spot-on production. It’s capped by an eye-catching album cover with an illustration inspired by traditional Japanese paintings. The title cut, “Showdown”, is without a doubt my favorite song on the disc and I was happy that they chose it for the CD included with this issue. It’s perhaps not representative for the album as a whole, as most of the other songs are faster, crunchier and a bit more piercing. Which if you’re a fan of more aggressive modern surf is undoubtedly a good thing. You'll also enjoy “The Revolver” which is equal parts spaghetti western and surf ballad.
