The Mortals - Low Value Targets CD (ROI) 

The Mortals were one of the mainstays of the Estrus Records / garage rock scene of the 90's, generally between 1992 and 1996. After that the band members went their own ways, then came back in 2018 with the original lineup, minus lead singer Steve Gatch. The two guitarists decided to handle the vocal duties with the new 4-piece lineup, and after playing a bunch of shows and writing new material, they’ve delivered this new full-length LP, Low Value Targets. If you listen to the new album expecting it to sound like the old albums they recorded 25 years ago you might be disappointed - it’s a bit more polished, less raw and there are much stronger melodies and songwriting on display here. So basically, you can say this album is great because of these traits. Simply put, the songs here are well-crafted, expertly recorded and are just stronger and more memorable. The band says that the album “follows the story of a scientist, Vee, and her mercenary companion, Daam, as they try to thwart the destructive plans of the selfish child, Queen Violet, and her power hungry advisor, Mr. Lees” and was loosely based on a long lost French comic book from the early 1970s. It's a pretty amazing, rocking and yet melodic rock n’ roll album with great songs and sharp sound that jumps out of your stereo speakers.
