Their 2021 7”/CD-EP release, The Return Of The Up Up Sound, was a brilliant return for the band after over 20 years of dormancy, but this 11 song album truly brings them back into the upper echelon of bands that are active here and now. Simply put, everything that you have heard, and loved, with all of the previous Bomboras albums is here - they haven’t changed directions, added samples or dance beats, or done anything to appeal to the dance or pop scenes. This is pure, raw Bomboras baby! The classic line-up is nearly all here - Gregg Hunt on guitar, Shane Van Dyke on bass, Johnny DeVilla on guitar and Jake Cavaliere on organ. Missing is Dave Klein on drums, but who does one of the best surf/instrumental rock bands call when they need a drummer to match their sound - none other than Dusty Watson! So there you go, 5 amazing musicians joining forces for these songs that combine surf, garage rock, Link Wray-style grit, Davie Allan-influenced fuzz and even spaghetti western themes. The production is absolutely spot-on - the instruments all shine and it’s clean and clear, while still capturing the fuzz, buzz and reverb perfectly. It’s really one of the rare surf/instro albums that you need to listen to with a high quality stereo or a really good set of headphones. So how do you package 11 incredible songs? You call up famed artist Shag to do the eye-catching cover art and layout, all worthy of framing and hanging on your wall, and then you ask Deke Dickerson (Untamed Youth, Go-Nuts and solo rockabilly fame), a self-proclaimed “OG Bomboras fan) to write the liner notes.
