Satan's Pilgrims - Plymouth Rock: The Best Of... 2xCD (MuSick)
There are few modern surf bands that deserve a “best of” release, but without a doubt Satan’s Pilgrims are one of them. MuSick has put together a 2 CD set containing some of their classic cuts on the first disc and rarities and new recordings on the other – 30 songs in all. The first disc contains cuts from each of their full-length releases. They got it just about right, but they left out a few of my personal faves (which is a problem with just about any “best of” release – you can’t please everybody!). The second disc is the real reason to buy this, after all, if you dig surf music you should already have all 5 of their full-length releases in your collection. I would buy this for just one reason – it has the previously vinyl-only song “Haunted House Of Rock”, which is one of my all-time favorite modern surf/instro cuts. The new tunes all live up to the high standard that Satan’s Pilgrims have delivered over the years. With great songs, liner notes, packaging and even a few videos this is an absolutely essential purchase.
