Although sadly I’m clear across the country and wasn’t able to see the first of the Man Or Astroman reunion shows, reports and video are beginning to flood the internet. They played Atlanta last night – here is a report courtesy of the Surf Guitar 101 website (more to follow):
MoonDawg: “Let me be the first to report that the show was excellent! Some early tunes (Invasion of the Dragonmen, Destination Venus), but mostly middle period (Man Made of CO2, Television Fission). Nothing from the post-Star-Cruch …

Double Crown is proud to be a co-sponsor of the festival (although sadly it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to fly over for it). Just take a look at this lineup!

In a town starved for surf music (with the exception of The All-Nighters, which are an excellent instrumental/surf rock band that we’re extremely lucky to have), it’s rare when the King Of The Surf Guitar comes to town. Every 3-5 years is the norm, yet I just go the news via Facebook that he’s coming back. He was just here in late June, and successfully busted the eardrums of a couple hundred fans. Sadly I’ll be out of town for this encore appearance, but if you’re in town (or anywhere …

I was listening to the Los Straitjackets / Kaiser George “Twist Party” CD tonight, and it got me thinking – “What is Kaiser George up to these days?”. I’m still looking for a webpage for him, but I checked the Kaisers mySpace page to look for a link, and stumbled upon this blog post:
2 Kaisers + 2 Rapiers = BEAT CRAZY!

Trace Lugar and Sticks Stechkin joined friends Daniel McNeill, Johnny “Knox” McGowan and Jamie Galatas to play a set of Penetrators tunes at the Drive Invasion show last weekend. Among the songs played were “Triple Dog Dare” and “Bikini Drag”, which is our featured video to the right. I can think of no better way to pay tribute to Rip and Spanky – Rip was one of the people that started the festival and the Penetrators made regular appearances at the fest over the years.

This weekend is the big Surf Guitar 101 Festival in California. Sadly, I can’t make the fest this year, but our goods will be there at the Dionysus Records table. Organizers will also be giving away copies of our latest releases throughout the fest. It’s a stellar lineup this year – if you can make it you’re in for a real reverb-packed experience! In addition to the festival’s mySpace page, you can get the full-scoop at the Surf Guitar 101 website.

The Mummies are playing a series of live shows this year, including shows in Europe and the US. I searched through Youtube and found a few clips – the ones from the Born Bad Records fest were the best I could find. Kinda weird seeing the boys play on such an elaborate stage, with all of those fancy lights, but heck, they sound great!
