Double Crown On The Rocks Podcast – New Show (#18)

We have started up our Double Crown On The Rocks podcast again, with new equipment, which will hopefully make it more listenable than before. Since it’s coming from Double Crown, shows will definitely feature lots of great surf and instrumental rock n’ roll (including new, rare and unreleased songs). Occasionally we’ll branch out though – as much as we love surf rock, we also dig rockabilly, exotica, garage rock and all sorts of stuff from the 50’s and 60’s.
We did about 17 shows 5 years …

DONATE TO THE VICTOR VECTOR/JONNY BROWNING MEDICAL FUND!

Guitarist Jonny Browning (aka Victor Vector in Man Or Astro-man?) is currently in the hospital with severe pneumonia, and has been since the end of the Man Or Astro-man? west coast tour a few weeks ago. He’s showing some progress and doctors are hopeful, but the longer he’s in the hospital, the more medical bills they will have. Since his family moved to Canada from Alabama fairly recently to live near his wife’s family, he has been unable to work until his work permits were complete. It’s been a long …

Davie Allan & The Arrows – Retrophonic CD (Review)

Due to space limitations in the new issue of The Continental Magazine I was unable to include this review of Davie Allan’s recent CD release, Retrophonic. So I thought I’d post it here:
Davie Allan’s Retrophonic combines previously unreleased vintage recordings with new tracks and is brimming with Davie’s signature searing fuzz guitar. The disc is dedicated to original Arrows rhythm guitarist Wayne Allwine who passed away last year, and whose vocals and saxophone are featured on Retrophonic. There are also vocal contributions from Ralph “Russ” Viot and Drew Bennett and …

Continental Magazine #18 w/CD (The Bambi Molesters & Davie Allan)

Issue #18 includes huge feature interviews with The Bambi Molesters and Davie Allan, and a look at last fall’s Shake The Shack Rockabilly Ball (Surf Night), plus tons of music and DVD reviews. There is also a 24 track CD filled with lots of great surf, instro and garage rock tunes. We had too much to cram into the magazine, so we’ve added pages! 40 pages in all, with a 2 color glossy cover.
Note: We have increased the price of the magazine by a buck, to $6.95/copy. We haven’t raised …

We’ve got another 7″ release available, this time from So. Cal. surf and frat rock combo The Volcanics! You loved their Girls Girls Girls CD, but the band’s been relatively quiet over the last couple of years. Well, they’re back in a big way with this two track slab of wax!
