Welcome to Brave New Surf, a showcase for the amazing new sounds of surf music. Here is undeniable evidence that the surf genre is not only still alive but thriving. The past four years have been extraordinarily fruitful in both the number and the quality of new releases. The songs on this CD testify to a love affair between the musicians and their music. Surf musicians are not in this for the money – almost all have to keep their day jobs – but, rather, because of a deep passion for the music. Brave New Surf CD Coming From Double Crown This November

We are excited to announce a brand new CD, featuring 20 of the best surf and instrumental rock bands in the world. Just a partial list of bands ought to get you excited – The Barbwires, El Ray, The Bambi Molesters, The Thunderchiefs, Los Twang! Marvels, The TomorrowMen, Frankie & The Poolboys, El Supernaut and many more. It’s set to feature a mix of previously released songs, as well as a few brand new recordings. It’s been compiled by Ivan Pongracic (The Madeira / The Space Cossacks), and features cover art by Ferenc Dobronyi. An informative booklet will be included as well, with liner notes and contact information for each band. We will announce more details soon, and will also be launching a dedicated website for this release.

Threesome is a new Serbian combo that delivers the sound of explosive surf punk that doesn’t care much about time or place. The three members of the band have been involved with the indie music scene for several years.

What started as just listening to bands such as Ventures, Dick Dale & The DelTones, Slacktone, Man or Astroman?, and watching The Bambi Molesters performing live, ended up with forming a band that gives its vision of what surf rock should sound today.

“Adriatica” is their debut full-length CD release, packed with 12 blistering surf rock instros, some with a slight punk/indie rock influence. There are 11 originals, plus a cover of Man Or Astroman’s “Interstellar Hardrive”. They beat out 400 bands in the Balkan region, receiving a recording contract and have since appeared at summer music festivals in front of huge crowds, and were recently featured on MTV. This is a band definitely on the rise, and this CD gives the rest of the world a chance to hear this band’s amazing, energetic surf rock sound.

The Big Surf Guitar 101 Festival In California Is This Weekend!

The big annual Surf Guitar 101 festival is this weekend (co-sponsored by Double Crown Records). Bands from all over the world are gathering in Southern California for a series of shows, culminating in the big event on Saturday, August 13th. Here is the complete band lineup for the convention:

Satan’s Pilgrims – One of the most popular and influential modern surf bands, these caped musicians hail from the Pacific Northwest, home of the Ventures, The Sonics, and The Wailers.
The Razorblades – All the way from Germany, you’ll dig their fast and loud take on surf music.
The Bradipos IV – From Italy, you’ll love their traditional surf and spaghetti western sounds.
The Cocktail Preachers – This Chicago band indeed preaches to the faithful the sounds of surf, exotica, and Mai-Tais.
Daikaiju – This Kabuki masked band hails from Alabama, and plays a high explosive, rocket-fueled progressive form of surf music. One of the most talked about live acts on the scene.
Meshugga Beach Party – Who knew? Traditional surf music combined with Jewish folk songs! You have to see to believe these chosen surfers from Northern California.
The Deadbeats – One of the hottest and youngest surf bands today, these kids like to play old school surf music loud and fast!
The Blue Demons – From Toronto, these wrestling super heroes will take you to the mat with their pile-driving take on surf and garage music.
The Tequila Worms – Another young band, these guys hail from Anaheim, California, and sound like The Ventures after getting in a car crash with Link Wray!

This is a rare chance to see one of the best surf rock bands in the world play in Bellingham. They have released several acclaimed CD’s and 7″s, and have toured all over the world. Opening the show are local faves the Sweaty Sweaters.
