The big annual Surf Guitar 101 festival is this weekend (co-sponsored by Double Crown Records). Bands from all over the world are gathering in Southern California for a series of shows, culminating in the big event on Saturday, August 13th. The Razorblades, from Wiesbaden, Germany, will be in Bellingham, WA this Sunday, July 31st at the Shakedown at 9:00pm. This is a rare chance to see one of the best surf rock bands in the world play in Bellingham. They have released several acclaimed CD’s and 7″s, and have toured all over the world. Opening the show are local faves the Sweaty Sweaters.

The Surfites have a brand new 7″ out now, featuring two brand new recordings. This is the third release in our jukebox singles series, and this one might just be the best yet. The A-side is a snappy toe-tapper called “Here She Comes Again”, while the flip comes just in time for summer – “Theme For Surfers”. “Here She Comes Again” is the band’s first vocal tune – but it’s not the Surfites singing (although the guys did sing in their previous band, The Daytonas). A new CD for the Mondrean fashion shop based in Vienna, Austria, has just been released by Hit Squad Records. This 17 song CD includes “Surfville” by The Surfites, taken from their 2007 “Big Pounder” CD release. Other artists featured on this compilation are April March, Stephane Pompougnac, The Puppini Sisters and Fred Astaire.
