Just got this press release from Groovie Records, a cool label based in Portugal:

The history of the Phantom Surfers is fairly uneventful. They have been consistently paying tribute to Los Angeles’ surf music and to the North West’s garage-rock.

Here with the reissue of their 1996 album, with nothing less than the surf guitar king, Dick Dale.

The lp came with 3 unreleased tracks and a new artwork for this Groovie Records release.

If you are a fan of the surf guitar and fuzzy rhythms of the US garage rock, this is your christmas LP.

Dick Dale – New Sundazed Reissue LP’s

The big surf music news this week is the Dick Dale reissue LP’s from Sundazed – 7 LP’s in all, including the hard-to-find “Live At Ciro’s” LP and a new Singles Collection ’61-65 2 x LP set. Although it’d be cool to have these, I was planning to give them a pass since I don’t play vinyl very much at home these days (two kids jumpin’ around all of the time – the needle hardly stays on the record!). However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Sundazed has also made these available on iTunes – I’m listening to the live album as I write. Excellent sound, and although it’s a mix of vocals and instros, I actually like the vocals here (not a huge fan of the songs he sings these days though). Gonna download the singles collection later tonight…

Dick Dale Hits Bellingham Again On December 14th!

In a town starved for surf music (with the exception of The All-Nighters, which are an excellent instrumental/surf rock band that we’re extremely lucky to have), it’s rare when the King Of The Surf Guitar comes to town. Every 3-5 years is the norm, yet I just go the news via Facebook that he’s coming back. He was just here in late June, and successfully busted the eardrums of a couple hundred fans. Sadly I’ll be out of town for this encore appearance, but if you’re in town (or anywhere in the Northwest) head on over to the Nightlight and catch this rock n’ roll legend.
