Just got this press release from Groovie Records, a cool label based in Portugal:

The history of the Phantom Surfers is fairly uneventful. They have been consistently paying tribute to Los Angeles’ surf music and to the North West’s garage-rock.
Here with the reissue of their 1996 album, with nothing less than the surf guitar king, Dick Dale.
The lp came with 3 unreleased tracks and a new artwork for this Groovie Records release.

The big surf music news this week is the Dick Dale reissue LP’s from Sundazed – 7 LP’s in all, including the hard-to-find “Live At Ciro’s” LP and a new Singles Collection ’61-65 2 x LP set. Although it’d be cool to have these, I was planning to give them a pass since I don’t play vinyl very much at home these days (two kids jumpin’ around all of the time – the needle hardly stays on the record!). Sundazed is releasing seven early Dick Dale 180 gram vinyl LP’s in March, including a 2 LP set compiling his early singles from ’61-’65.

In a town starved for surf music (with the exception of The All-Nighters, which are an excellent instrumental/surf rock band that we’re extremely lucky to have), it’s rare when the King Of The Surf Guitar comes to town.
