Deke Dickerson Interviews Duane Eddy In Guitar World Magazine

Guitar World magazine online has an interview with certified guitar legend Duane Eddy (“Rebel Rouser”, “Peter Gunn” & “Movin’ & Groovin’” are among his many hits). What makes this essential reading is that the guy doing the interview was none other than Deke Dickerson (Untamed Youth, Dave & Deke Combo, Ecco-Fonic Records and currently a popular solo artist). Eddy has a new record coming out, a collaboration with UK musician Richard Hawley (an artist well worth checking out, especially if you like moody, atmospheric rockabilly influenced torch songs), and will also be performing at the Glastonbury festival.

Deke’s Guitar Geek Festival #8 – Lineup Announced

The lineup for Deke Dickerson’s annual Guitar Geek Festival has been announced and man, it’s going to be another good one! Junior Brown is the headliner, but even more amazing (to me) is a West Coast appearance by The Trashmen. It will be on January 15th, 2011 in Anaheim, CA at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel. Deke’s Guitar Geek Festival Next Weekend

Sadly I’m stuck in Bellingham, WA and can’t make it down for this, but if you’re in California, or can get there next weekend, you absolutely must attend Deke Dickerson’s 7th Annual Guitar Geek Festival. I saw his mini-Geek Fest at Viva Las Vegas last year and it was definitely one of the highlights of the weekend, and one of the most entertaining shows I’ve ever seen. The highlight of the fest next weekend has got to be the rare live appearance of legendary guitar twang-meister Duane Eddy. But that’s not all, you also get George Tomsco of the Fireballs, Meshugga Beach Party, Deke Dickerson and a whole lot more! Here’s the lineup:

Deke Dickerson Does Soundtrack For “Wild & Wonderful Whites Of West Virginia”

Deke Dickerson recorded the music for the upcoming Johnny Knoxville film “The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West
Virginia”, which just debuted on June 27th. I haven’t heard the music yet, but chances are it’s a mix of his patented style of hillbilly, rockabilly, swing, western and surf rock.

I’m Off To Vegas Next Week For Viva Las Vegas 2009!

Just a week from today I will be escaping the chilly NW (there was frickin’ snow this morning on my way into work!) and flying into sunny Las Vegas for the 2009 Viva Las Vegas festival. As excited as I am about that, I’m equally, if not more, excited about the Wild Records Showcase gig on Wednesday at the Rio Hotel, featuring The Barbwires, Omar & The Stringpoppers, Santos and Luis & The Wildfires. Four great bands, yes, playing a major Las Vegas hotel, yes, yes, that’s all cool, but what’s the topper? They’re playing at the top of the hotel, 51st floor, at the Voodoo Lounge!!! How many surf & rockabilly gigs are you ever gonna see at the top of a hotel – it’s gonna be amazing! I will be taking a bunch of pictures, and will report back after the shows. Heck, if I can get my act together, and am sober enough, I’ll even try to do some twitter and remote blog posts. Despite this being a rockabilly fest, there are several surf bands on the bill that I will be checking out – The Barbwires, The Aquasonics, the Tequila Worms and Rod and the Tonemasters, as well as a Deke Dickerson mini Guitar Geek Festival.
