This list is a mix of everything that I’ve been diggin’ this holiday season. There’s a little bit of everything, but my main criteria is simply listing the songs that have buzzed around my head the most. The song here include some surf, some classic and some that are just downright cheesy. In no particular order, here goes:
1. Frank Sinatra & Family – I Wouldn’t Trade Christmas
2. The Spotnicks – Parade Of The Wooden Soldiers

Trace Lugar and Sticks Stechkin joined friends Daniel McNeill, Johnny “Knox” McGowan and Jamie Galatas to play a set of Penetrators tunes at the Drive Invasion show last weekend. Among the songs played were “Triple Dog Dare” and “Bikini Drag”, which is our featured video to the right. I can think of no better way to pay tribute to Rip and Spanky – Rip was one of the people that started the festival and the Penetrators made regular appearances at the fest over the years.

Despite all of the gloom n’ doom talk about the economy this year, the summer of 2009 has shaped up to be a great time for new surf music releases. What better way to lift the spirits than put some fun, energetic highly-reverbed sounds on the hi-fi! While we’ve had a quiet summer here at Double Crown with new releases, lots of bands and labels have picked up the slack with some great new releases – some of which are in our on-line catalog, and some will be added shortly.

The Verbtones have just released their debut full-length CD, Rock Me Out!, 11 excellent tunes all wrapped up in a Ventures-influenced album cover.

Achtung Rakete, a German surf/instro combo, have delivered a great debut disc (self-titled) with some of my favorite cover art ever.

The Nematoads have just come out with their latest disc, called Spy Car Mechanic, on Deep Eddy Records.

Of course, the summer was kicked off with two major, blockbuster releases (which hopefully many of you already have) – Los Straitjackets‘ Further Adventures Of Los Straitjackets, and Satan’s Pilgrims‘ Psychsploitation (order from Double Crown).

The Mummies are playing a series of live shows this year, including shows in Europe and the US. I searched through Youtube and found a few clips – the ones from the Born Bad Records fest were the best I could find. Kinda weird seeing the boys play on such an elaborate stage, with all of those fancy lights, but heck, they sound great!
