No Fun Records has released the first in a series of discs that will feature two surf/instro bands doing half a dozen songs each. Kicking things off is a great new surf combo from Argentina called Los Kahunas that just released their debut CD. This disc has half the songs from that debut, most of which very trad-sounding, with some reverb-drenched stompers intermingled with mellow, twangy beach music. The other dozen tunes come from The Invisible Surfers, another new combo based on the other side of the world in Greece. Their sound is harder, and crunchier, but with plenty of reverb.
