'Rockin' Guitars firmly establishes The Vickings as a force to be reckoned with. Kicking off with a driving Luc Kennis original featuring his prototype Burns Barracuda bass, the pace is maintained with a sequence of Ventures tracks which all display a tight sound, based on the originals but benefiting from a clear modern production. Ivanov begins a selection of Euro instrumentals of varying degrees of obscurity, guaranteed to tickle the palate of the most jaded instrumentals fans. Full marks to The Vickings for avoiding the obvious. The jaunty "Milco" and a guitar arrangement of organist Andre Brasseur's "Early Bird" - both performed at Pipeline 98 * - are especially worth of note. The final third of the CD starts with two surf classics followed by another Kennis original. Of the two Shadows - related items, "Theme For Young Lovers" gets a rocked up treatment which may make the purists cringe, but will surely raise a smile from everyone else, whereas "My Resistance Is Low" is based on the Shads treatment.
