    Led by Pollo Del Mar guitarist Ferenc Dobrony, Frankie & The Pool Boys are a surf "supergroup" featuring Dusty Watson (Dick Dale, Agent Orange, Slacktone, etc.) on drums and PDM's Jeff Turner on bass, along with cameos from Shigeo Naka (Japan's The Surf Coasters), Dave Wronski (Slacktone), Ivan Pongracic (The Madeira, The Space Cossacks), Mel Waldorf (Meshugga Beach Party, Los Mel-tones) and 2008 Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame inductee Bob Spaulding (The Ventures). The sound is strictly old world warm, no distortion boxes or digital reverbs were used. The styles range from reverb drippin' trad ("Teke, Teke, Teke", "Johnny Fool") to Spaghetti Western ("A Man Called Dirt", "Finito Bandito").

    Although Hannes has played 50's style rockabilly music in Berlin, Germany for almost 30 years, his first CD with his name as “Hannes & the Blue Vinyl Freaks”, was released by Swiss label TCY Records, in April 2008. The disc contains 16 covers and originals with songs sung in English and German. The CD includes a live version of “Rock Your Baby” featuring Wanda “Let’s Have A Party” Jackson.

    We just couldn't let the holidays get by without releasing something, so after seeing King of Hawaii recently at a show in Seattle (playing with The Mercury Four, Pollo Del Mar and The Surf Coasters) and hearing that they had some yuletide recordings in the can we decided to rush this out in time for the holidays.     Laika & The Cosmonauts are not only Finland's #1 Surf band, they are considered by many to be the greatest rock'n'roll band in all of Scandinavia. That said, describing the Cosmonauts as simply a "surf" band falls short of telling the whole story of these masterful instrumentalists. While the Cosmonauts were initially inspired by such American instro-kings as Dick Dale and The Ventures, Local Warning finds the band digging deeper into the genre and referencing UK greats The Shadows and legendary producer Joe Meek ("Telstar"). The band's increasing use of layered and overlapping guitar and organ melodies and pounding rhythmic grooves - even dance beats - gives these songs a soundtrack-like, cinematic feel. Laika & The Cosmonauts remain drummer Janne Haavisto; guitarist Mikko Lankinen; organist/guitarist Matti Pitsinki (the only Cosmonaut to ever actually ride a surfboard) and bassist Tom Nyman.

    Los Kahunas, an Argentenian surf combo, released their first set of recordings a few years ago, and now they're back with an even mightier collection of classics. There are 9 originals and 5 covers, including well-known stompers like "The Hearse", "Lanky bones", "The Rise & Fall Of Flingel Bunt" and "The Creeper". They have a tight, classic sound paired up with just the right amount of production - you can hear all of the instruments clearly, but the production isn't slick and modern sounding. They have also captured a bright, "live" sound that works well with their style of songwriting. It comes in a digipak cover with a nice, vintage look, right down to the pseudo wear and discoloring of the edges.
