Beach Boys “Reform” For 50th Anniversary Show

Just saw a report on NME.com stating that the Beach Boys will be celebrating their 50th anniversary with a show featuring past musicians, including Brian Wilson. The lineup is set to include Al Jardine, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston and possibly guitarist David Marks. To tell the truth, I am more excited about the Trashmen playing shows now, or the recent shows by Man Or Astroman?, but still, this is pretty newsworthy.

We put out our first 7″ in years recently, a two track twister from The Beechwoods – a brand new frat n’ surf rock band. The disc has one vocal and one instro, with a sound that sure to please. It’s a limited edition release – only 300 copies were made.

The third annual Surf Guitar 101 festival, co-sponsored by Double Crown Records, is less than a month away! The lineup is the best yet, including the Space Cossacks, Frankie & The Poolboys, The Wadadli Riders, The Insect Surfers, The Space Rangers, The Atomic Mosquitos, The Surfside IV, and the International Men Of Mystery. There will also be an all-star surf musician jam and a large vending area where you can pick up all of the latest surf CD’s, 7″s and memorabilia. This clip was just too good to not post here. I’ll be heading down to Seattle tomorrow for their appearance at the Triple Sip wine tasting/dinner/concert fundraiser for KEXP radio. I didn’t think I’d be able to make it, but thanks to Victor Vector, I’ll be enjoying a fine Cabernet while listening to “A Mouthful Of Exhaust” and “U-Uranus”

The Lamest (Or Greatest) Version Of Wipeout Ever

Birdstuff of Man Or Astroman posted a link to a Rick K. & The Allnighters, a West Virginia combo that, unknown to me, are “America’s Most Exciting Show Band”. The link was for a live performance of ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man“, which is well worth checking out. The drummer pulls off some moves I have never seen before. However, since we’re focused on surf music here, I have featured their take on the classic, “Wipeout”, where the singer and drummer switch places without, pardon the pun, missing a beat.
